This Friday (21st June), St Bride’s Managers will be attempting to complete, along with 60 other walkers, The Boost Historic Sports Venues Marathon Walk 2024. This is a challenging circular 26.2 miles walk starting and finishing at Rosslyn Park Rugby Club in Barnes, with stops at a number of interesting historic sports venues, including Hampton Court Real Tennis, Richmond Bridge Boat Builders and Kew Cricket Club.
Boost Charitable Trust is a grant-giving sports charity and was set up in 2005. Its mission is to fund and support inspiring programmes which help to improve the lives of the disadvantaged and disabled through the power of sport. Current programmes include an adaptive surf programme in South Shields helping people with disabilities to get out on the waves; a street running programme for the homeless in London, Leeds and Manchester; a tennis programme at three schools in Oxfordshire for children with special needs; and accessible cricket sessions for people with Parkinson’s in Newcastle. Since inception, Boost has been involved with over 70 different types of sport and total grants have exceeded £2.5 million. The focus is on helping people in five main areas: physical and learning disabilities, financial hardship, mental health, social exclusion, and medical research and relief.
